Hitting Groups

About Hitting Groups

This program is built for the ongoing progression of hitters. Multiple hitting instructors from Elevate will work with 10-16 athletes in small groups, teaching them what they need in the immediate, as well as for their future selves.

The challenge: Every hitter is unique, and they bring something different to Elevate instructors each day; their current skill level, emotional state, strength, lever length, mobility/stability, brain processing power, vision, level of play, what they’ve been taught, what they feel versus what is real.

Why join EPA's monthly Hitting Groups?

The program was created by Curt Nelson, Elevate’s Director of Hitting, to provide solutions to the challenge above and the results are clear – athletes have shown vast, meaningful growth as hitters and learners.

Who is instructing?

Curt Nelson, whose content and methods have benefitted hitters from the youth levels to current professionals in the MLB (and adopted by many hitting instructors in the NW), will work with other excellent hitting instructors from Elevate. Together, they prepare to meet each hitter’s unique needs with the information, resources, teaching methods, and environment that will Elevate their game.

What is expected of the hitters?

Embrace change, no matter how uncomfortable the process will be at times. There is no other way to grow.

  • Start and keep a hitting journal to track sessions, practices, games
  • Communicate by asking questions of instructors and seeking feedback
  • Pursuing new information by questioning your beliefs
  • Buy in to new information, methods, and techniques taught by instructors
  • Learn to be comfortable feeling uncomfortable

What will be learned?

Every day will be chocked full of lessons to improve. Learning to become more self-aware and how to make your own adjustments is priority #1. Becoming a good teammate or hitting partner is #2. The framework of the content is seen below.

  • Balance – for stance, set up, and mobility
  • Movement – for stability, timing, control, rhythm, and tempo
  • Firing & Deceleration – of big muscles and backside
  • Path – for proper direction and quality of various movements
  • Approach & Mentality – for routines, vision & decision-making, confidence, and composure
  • Adjustments – based on time of year, situations, and mechanics

What tools will be used in classes?

The use of the following tools will be based on the location and the needs of the specific day’s curriculum.

  • Video, including ultra slow-motion camera
  • Rapsodo
  • Blast Motion
  • Trackman
  • HitTrax
  • Spinball iPitch
